These differences are in premiums, providers, coverage, restrictions, rules and regulations.

Both Medicare Parts A and B offer similar coverage. Medicare Parts A and B also offer coverage for annual preventive services at an additional cost. Most Medicare Advantage Plans do not cover these same items. Many of the Medicare Supplement plans now cover some of the items that were previously covered by original Medicare.

Medicare Parts A and B covers physician visits, hospital stays, laboratory work, durable medical equipment, nursing home care and hearing aids. There are several Medicare supplementplans that cover chiropractic services, mental health services, and weight management services. Medicare Parts C and D do not have a provider network and does not cover most prescriptions. These plans are available in private insurance markets where they are mostly preferred by seniors with good health.
